ETHICS OF THE ISJ

 

All members of the International Standards Journalists practice learned, responsible, true and fair journalism. The core values of the ISJ are summarized in the following rules which serve as guidelines for our journalists. As with all rules, the following require interpretation and adaptation to context.

ISJ RULES

1. Pursue truths; reject falsehoods.

2. Know and apply context. Do not mislead. Paint an accurate picture.

3. Think, research, write, produce and report with clarity: logically.

4. Be accurate. Verify claims. Use best evidence.

5. Be law-abiding and honorable in all undertakings. Do not cheat.

6. Be impartial in reporting. Never take sides. Give equal opportunities to opposing views. Be just to all.

7. Gross errors are inexcusable. Be careful, analytical and thorough every time.

8. Be relevant and useful in all reporting.

9. Be honorable. Avoid insults. Avoid plagiarism and offensive conduct throughout.

10. Be learned. Be an expert in chosen field of journalism.
